About
The Festival
After
winning the Silver Medal at the 1993 International
Queen Elizabeth Competition, violinist Keng-Yuen
Tseng has been active performing and teaching
worldwide. Currently a faculty member at
the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins
University, Mr. Tseng also serves as a member
of the Honorary Advisory Council of the
Evergreen Symphony Orchestra in Taiwan.
Over the years, his brilliant musical and
technical abilities together with his humorous
and caring teaching styles have made their
marks with students and parents here and
abroad. Looking back at the 1998 ”Jen Hsiang
International Music Festival” in Kaohsiung,
the 1999 ”Taiwan International Music Festival”
in Hsin Chu, and every master class he has
given, Keng-Yuen Tseng always carries with
him a passion to help students through a
serious yet humorous approach, hardworking
yet patient teaching philosophy. To this
day, he is frequently invited to perform
and give master classes in his native Taiwan.
Having left his country to pursue his musical
career at a young age, Mr. Tseng is familiar
with the difficulties and the process to
becoming a professional musician. It is
Mr. Tseng’s wish to help point out a path,
to layout guidelines, and to share insights
with those who seek to pursue a musical
career. His passion to help is the driving
force, which give birth to the inaugural
season of the Shuan Yin International Music
Festival.
Mission
It is our mission
to bring world-class musical experience
to our participants. Every summer, numerous
students from Taiwan travel abroad to participate
in music festivals worldwide. Not only is
it costly to travel half way around the
world, but also, language barrier dampens
actual learning experience. Lead by Artistic
Director, Keng-Yuen Tseng, 2005 Shuan Yin
International Music Festival has invited
world-class pianists Boris Slutsky, Alexander
Shtarkman, Meng-Chieh Liu, violinists Dmitri
Berlinsky, Hao-Tun Teng, and bow maker Yung
Chin to serve as faculty members. In addition,
to ensure most effective learning experiences
for our participants, we have carefully
selected professional musicians as interpreters.
Our faculty members are unique, exceptional
artists who travel extensively around the
world and teach at prestigious music institutions.
In addition, faculty members will present
a gala concert with open rehearsals for
participants to observe. Furthermore, faculty
forums provide opportunities to share with
participants and parents, their very own
personal experience as musicians, providing
insights to the becoming of professional
musicians, their lives, and training process.
Through this intensive and comprehensive
program, we hope to bring a rewarding and
insightful experience to our participants.
